Dep Art Gallery opened on 22 September 2006 with an exhibition of works by Mario Nigro. Founded in Milan by Antonio Addamiano, it owes its name, which stands for Distribution and Art Promotion, to the English word "depart". It is, thus, a departure with a precise direction that the gallery pursues to this day, characterized by a broad and varied cultural program which seeks to offer collectors the opportunity to create or enrich a collection and, above all, to preserve it over time. For the exhibitions, both Italian and foreign artists are chosen with particular attention to artists of the '60s and '70s but without forgetting subsequent generations and always trying to alternate and explore a range of languages. The important collaboration with the Emilio Scanavino Archive, starting in 2008, will be a decisive experience for Antonio Addamiano who, besides harnessing new media, social media and the full potential of the web, has been growing the gallery’s archive, which since 2013 is also home to the archive of Turi Simeti, the artist for whom he, in collaboration with Federico Sardella, edits a catalogue raisonné which was published by Skira in 2017. The exhibitions are designed to create a dialogue between the artworks and the gallery space, which is adapted to the different needs or conceptualised respectively to showcase the works in the best way. This has been made possible in 2015, when, confirming the connection with his native city and with the first artists with whom he set out on his journey, Antonio Addamiano inaugurates the current venue in Via Comelico, in an independent two-storey building that fully meets the needs of the artists he represents, for whom he organizes and promotes initiatives in various public and private institutions, collaborating with museums, foundations and galleries in Italy and abroad, as well as the gallery’s participation in the most important national and international fairs. By being in close and direct relationship and having built long-lasting collaborations with its artists, Dep Art Gallery has become the reference gallery for Natale Addamiano, Alberto Biasi, Mario Nigro, Pino Pinelli, Salvo, Emilio Scanavino, Turi Simeti and Ludwig Wilding. In recent years, the gallery has expanded the range of its artists by starting a series of ongoing collaborations, first in Germany with Regine Schumann and Wolfram Ullrich, and then by widening its focus to a more broadly international context with solo exhibitions by Tony Oursler and Carlos Cruz-Diez All exhibitions are realized with the direct collaboration of the artists or their heirs and always with the involvement of a curator. In fact, the curatorial support stands at the center of activities as every exhibition is accompanied by catalogues or bilingual monographs. Through this editorial work, the gallery has assumed the role of a publisher, also thanks to the contributions of Matteo Galbiati, Demetrio Paparoni, Francesca Pola, Gianluca Ranzi, Federico Sardella, Francesco Tedeschi and Alberto Zanchetta. Since 2017, Antonio Addamiano has furthermore carried out the role of the delegate for the Lombardy region at the National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries (ANGAMC) and today, the Dep Art Gallery is a dynamic and consistently growing art organization which offers a broad array of services and represents a great diversity of artistic expressions. The most important exhibitions include those dedicated to Carlos Cruz-Diez, Tony Oursler (2019), Regine Schumann (2018), Wolfram Ullrich (2018), Alighiero Boetti (2018), Salvo (2017, 2010, 2007), Mario Nigro (2017, 2006), Henk Peeters and Jan Schoonhoven (2017), Alberto Biasi (2016, 2013 and 2008), Emilio Scanavino (2016, 2012, 2008), Turi Simeti (2015, 2013), Pino Pinelli (2019, 2015), Ludwig Wilding (2014, 2013) and Emilio Vedova (2010).
